A disgraced nurse who carried out intimate examinations of children at Great Western Hospital ‘for sexual gratification’ could face a police probe.
Ashley Boyd, who has been known to use the names Ashley Hayes and Rhys Cronin, performed unnecessary testicular examinations on several boys.
Despite being told to stop by senior staff, he continued. The Nursing and Midwifery Council panel found proven that his activities were done for sexual gratification.
Wiltshire Police were informed at the time and an investigation was launched. However, the Crown Prosecution Service told the force to refer it back to the hospital for internal investigation.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an initial investigation was conducted following concerns about examinations carried out by a nurse at the Great Western Hospital.
“Advice was sought by the Crown Prosecution Service who advised that the case should be referred back to the Great Western Hospital for an internal investigation to be carried out. This has now concluded.”
The force confirmed that they will re-open the investigation should it be required.
Adding: “We will liaise with the Hospital Trust to determine whether any further investigation is required.”
