Detectives and forensics are probing a body discovery near Trowbridge.
A member of the public, understood to be a rambler, called 999 to report that they had found a deceased person on land off Ashton Road, in the Ashton Common area.
Following the call at around 1.30pm today (Thursday), officers were deployed and once the death was confirmed, an investigation commenced into the circumstances.
Detectives remained on scene at 7pm, alongside two forensic investigators. The focus appears to be at the rear of a large barn storing hay or straw bales.
Whilst further details about the body have not been confirmed, it is clear police want to establish whether the death came as a result of foul play.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Detectives are investigating, following the discovery of a deceased person at a rural location in Ashton Common, east of Trowbridge, shortly after 1.30pm today (07/03).
