A cyclist has died six days after suffering head injuries in a crash in Melksham.

Bogumił Szurgot, aged in his 50s, was riding along the A350 – near the roundabout with Hampton Park West – when he was struck by a car at about 8.30pm on 3 November.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance landed at the nearby Wiltshire Air Ambulance base – before flying him to Southmead Hospital for urgent treatment.

Bogumil, who lived locally, is understood to have required major surgery for his injuries. Despite the best efforts of doctors, his life support was turned off on Thursday (9 November).

Wiltshire Police are continuing the investigate the circumstances of the horror collision and establish who – if anyone – was at fault.

A spokesperson for the force said: “His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist trained officers.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“If you saw what happened or have dash cam footage please contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 345 of November 3.

“Alternatively, contact the team directly – [email protected].”
