A 65-year-old man from Tidworth has died following a serious road traffic collision while he was riding his bicycle on the A338 yesterday evening.

Two vehicles, the bicycle and a red Suzuki Swift, crashed at late on 22 December.

The cyclist was rushed to hospital with ‘life-threatening injuries’. The driver of the motor vehicle fled the scene of the collision.

A 23-yearyold man, also from the Tidworth area, has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to Swindon Gablecross Police Station where he currently remains in custody.

The road was closed by police for around seven hours for collision investigation work and reopened shortly after 5am this morning.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call PC Williamson or PC Cargill at the Collision Investigation Unit at Devizes on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where details may be left anonymously if preferred.
