Police are guarding a crime scene at a popular village shop following a burglary overnight.
Officers were called to The Family Mart in High Street, Lambourn, located just over the Wiltshire border in Berkshire, at around 1.30am this morning (Wednesday).
The store has been cordoned off ahead of forensic investigation work that’s due to take place later.
It comes just six days after a village shop in Atworth, Wiltshire, was burgled. In that incident, hundreds of pounds worth of tobacco products were taken.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the shop said: “We regret to inform you that the shop will be closed for a few hours or more. There was a robbery at our shop last night around 1:35 am.
“The CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) team will be coming any time of the day so until then the shop will be closed. Our sincere apologies to the customers who shop at our store, we are hoping to open as soon as the investigation is over. I hope you understand.
“Thanks to the neighbours upstairs who woke the other staff members about the theft alarm smoke at our shop. We appreciate it!
“We have never had this situation before and it’s making us feel so upset. We feel hurt because we put a lot of effort into growing this business, as many may know. So please be careful around you and stay alert at all times, especially business owners.”
