Police helicopter above Devizes after sexual assault canal-side

A crime scene is in place alongside the canal in Devizes following a sexual assault tonight.

Police officers are guarding the large cordon which begins on some steps off Northgate Bridge in Northgate Street, with a large police presence on Bath Road and The Nursery too.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers in Devizes are investigating a report of a sexual assault which occurred earlier this evening near to the canal, by the Esso garage, Bath Road.

“Officers have been assisted by the police helicopter and a scene is currently cordoned off near to the canal while we continue with our enquiries.

“Anyone who has witnessed anything suspicious in the area which could assist our investigation should call 101 immediately.”
