A Chippenham man who waved his willy at a funeral director has been sentenced.
Christopher Taylor was found guilty of indecent exposure at his trial before Christmas – but after failing to show up, he was put before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (9 March).
Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said the defendant fell to be sentenced for the crime alongside a public order offence – relating to the same incident – for which he pleaded guilty in mid-2022.
He said the 35-year-old, hurled abuse at a funeral director who was standing outside F. W. Jones & Son in Market Place, Chippenham, on 6 January last year.
Taylor threatened to kill the man and repeatedly called him a c**t and other obscenities.
During the incident, he removed his penis from the top of his trousers and waved it towards his victim and continued to make threats and be generally abusive.
Representing himself in court, the defendant, of Goldney Avenue, Chippenham, said he had “moved on” since and was suffering from mental health issues at the time. He confirmed that he has now secured a job.
The magistrates imposed an 11-month community order and told him to complete 12 rehabilitation activity days and a three-month alcohol abstinence programme, monitored by a tag. He must also pay £620 costs and a £95 surcharge.
The imposition of an 11-month order, rather than the usual 12-month order, means Taylor will not have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.
