A man has been charged with knifing a man during an attack in Chippenham.
Ryan Pratt, 37, is accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH) on his alleged victim with intent by causing him a serious injury with a blade during a ‘disagreement’ on 5 May 2021.
The defendant, of Greenway Lane, Chippenham, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court via video link from HMP Bullingdon this afternoon (28 April).
On hearing that Pratt has been unable to organise a solicitor after giving away his phone credit to an inmate in need, legal advisor Juan Batchelor suggested the case be adjourned.
Magistrates adjourned the case until Friday 13 May to allow the defendant the chance to arrange a solicitor.
A charge of GBH with intent is an indictable-only offence, meaning it cannot be dealt with by a magistrates court and will inevitably be sent to Swindon Crown Court.
If convicted of the crime, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
