Work to dual the A350 around Chippenham is progressing well and remains on schedule for completion in winter 2026, Wiltshire Council says.

Construction, which began in the spring, is being delivered by local contractor MJ Church.

The project will complete the final phases of dualling on the A350 in Chippenham, aiming to boost traffic flow and connectivity across the area.

The Department for Transport provided £26.6m towards the £32m project, with the council funding the remainder.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, visited the site with MJ Church’s Civil Engineering Director, Claire Coetzee, to review progress. He said he was pleased to see the project on track and within budget.

“The A350 is a vital route for Wiltshire and the wider region, and once complete, the dualling will increase capacity, reduce delays, and improve traffic flow, particularly around Bumpers Farm during peak times,” he added.

This view was echoed by Ms Coetzee, who said her company was pleased the works were causing minimal disruption.

“As a local business, we are proud to be delivering this flagship infrastructure project for Wiltshire, a trusted client partner,” she said.

“MJ Church is embedded within the community with a significant proportion of our workforce living in the region; the A350 has further enabled our business to offer more social value projects, building on our existing sustainability strategy to enhance local prosperity.”

Phases 4 and 5 of the scheme will upgrade remaining single-carriageway sections and improve the Bumpers Farm roundabout.

The improvements aim to reduce congestion, improve access to the Bumpers Farm industrial estate, and shorten journey times along this key north-south route connecting the M4 to the south coast.
