A crime scene put in place after a serious assault in Swindon contained a portion of cheesy chips strewn next to a pool of blood.

A man, aged in his 20s, was rushed to hospital after sustaining an injury during an altercation in High Street, Old Town, at this morning (Saturday, 12 November).

Police were called to the incident, which happened close to the Kioki nightclub, shortly before 4am.

The victim suffered a facial wound and was taken to the Great Western Hospital for treatment. His injury is not deemed life-changing or life-threatening.

A male suspect, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and taken to Gablecross Police Station for questioning. He remains in custody.

A crime scene was put in place around the area where the attack took place, near the roundabout with Newport Street and Marlborough Road, until about 5.30am.

A portion of cheesy chips could be seen strewn across the ground immediately alongside a pool of blood. A pack of open rolling tobacco was also within the cordon.

Inspector Steve Love said: “We’d urge anyone who witnessed the disorder who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

“Officers are continuing with their enquiries this morning, including gathering any available CCTV footage.”
