Chaos can be expected on Boxing Day – as thousands are set to attend a Swindon match.
Wiltshire Police will be deploying a significant number of officers to ensure public safety as supporters flock to the Swindon Town FC vs Wrexham AFC game.
Because trains won’t be running through Swindon on Boxing Day, the town can see a increase in road traffic ahead of the 3pm fixture.
In a statement, the force said: “We are urging the thousands of supporters attending the Swindon Town v Wrexham match at the County Ground on Boxing Day to leave plenty of time to arrive at the ground.
“With no trains running through Swindon on the day, we are expecting more people than usual to be travelling on foot or by road for the 3pm fixture.
“Car parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for both home and away supporters at the usual designated parking at St Joseph’s College. Limited spaces will also be available at the fire station on Drove Road.
“A large number of supporters are expected so the public will see an increase in police officers at the ground before, during and after the match as we keep everyone safe.”
