UPDATE: Police confirm boy, 17, sustained significant injuries in Swindon shooting
A casualty has been airlifted to hospital following a serious incident in Swindon.
Emergency services were called to Odstock Road, Penhill, following what is believed to be a shooting at around 0.30am this morning (Monday).
Locals say armed police surrounded a property, even entering neighbouring gardens as officers swarmed the area.
Forensic investigation work was ongoing at the location at 7am. A crime scene investigator placed more than a dozen evidence markers around a front garden.
A resident told Wiltshire 999s that they overheard a paramedic talking about the injured person’s gunshot wound.
A source confirmed that a casualty was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by Wiltshire Air Ambulance shortly after 2am.
Armed police have been carrying out operations in the area this morning – performing a hard stop on a van in Akers Way and raiding a house in Penhill. However, at this stage, it’s not been confirmed if those events are connected to this suspect shooting.
Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to an incident in Swindon at 00:26 on Monday, April 24, 2023.
“We attended in our helicopter and airlifted a patient to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.”
