Two boys, aged 16 and 17, are in police custody after a man was ‘sliced with a machete’ during a violent disorder in Swindon.

Armed police raced to the serious incident, which started in Queen’s Drive and continued onto Buckhurst Field, at around 11.15am yesterday (16 September).

During the disorder, a 20-year-old man sustained serious injuries – slash wounds caused by a large knife, according to several eyewitnesses. He remains in hospital treatment but is said to be in a stable condition.

Chief Inspector Nick Mawson said: “We would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation and for providing information to assist our investigation. The incident took place during the middle of the day in a busy public area and I’m sure would have been upsetting for anyone who witnessed it.

“I would like to assure the public that there is no wider threat from this specific incident. There will be an increased police presence in the area for reassurance.

“We would appeal for anyone who has recorded footage to please refrain from sharing this on social media but to instead forward this to investigators as this could provide valuable evidence.”

If you witnessed this incident, have any information or have any footage of the incident please contact police on 101 quoting log 54210090395.

Alternatively you can share information without leaving your name by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
