Part of a farm near Pewsey was cordoned off following the discovery of an explosive today.

Police were called to the property shortly before 10am this morning where a member of the public had found what was believed to be live ordnance.

The Royal Logistics Corps’ Bomb Disposal Unit was deployed to the scene, arriving in the afternoon. On inspection, it’s thought the item was a four-inch naval shell.

At sometime after 3pm, the team carried out a small controlled explosion and the cordon was lifted a short time later.
