Wiltshire Police has thanked residents in Pewsey for their ‘kindness and support’ after a medical incident in the village.

Members of the public came together to help a woman before ambulance crews arrived, providing umbrellas, blankets and ice packs to protect her from the heat.

Residents also supplied officers with refreshments and cold water while they remained at the scene during the prolonged response on 26 June.

In a message shared online, a force spokesperson said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to the residents who assisted during a medical incident in Pewsey on 26 June.

“Before ambulance crews were able to arrive, members of the local community came together to help a woman in need, providing umbrellas, blankets and ice packs to shield her from the sun, as well as offering support and reassurance throughout the incident.

“The compassion, kindness and community spirit shown by everyone involved did not go unnoticed.

“Your willingness to step forward and help during a difficult situation made a real difference and is a fantastic example of the best of our local communities.”

Local resident Geordan Rose Britten praised the emergency services involved.

She said: “The officers on scene were fantastic throughout. The young police officer who arrived alone and immediately provided care to the lady was exceptional.

“Sgt Holly H escalated the request for an ambulance due to the lengthy wait time, and the duty paramedic, Loxley, came out personally to assess the lady.

“It was an extremely hot day, and despite being in full uniform and remaining on scene for many hours, none of the officers complained.

“They remained professional, compassionate and dedicated throughout- something that’s nice to see. They all did an outstanding job and are a real credit to their respective services.”
