A man has been given a conditional caution after his mother’s dog bit an ex-serviceman.
Jason Oakes, 37, was charged with being in charge of a dog which was dangerously out of control in Royal Wootton Bassett on 4 December last year.
The defendant, of Briar Leaze, Compton Bassett, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court yesterday but the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew the offence after hearing that it was dealt with by way of a conditional caution.
Oakes was told the pay compensation to the victim, an ex-serviceman formerly based at RAF Lyneham, as part of the conditions.
The dog, a border terrier named JJ, has since been put the sleep following a diagnosis of lymphoma and dementia – health issues that are believed to have changed the pet’s temperament during the incident.
