Two people have been arrested following a suspected arson attack in Swindon town centre.
Firefighters were called to a derelict building in Bridge Street shortly after 4.30pm this evening (31 August) following reports of the blaze.
The former nightclub, known as The Broadwalk, was entered by a member of the inSwindon Street Team prior to the emergency services’ arrival, who managed to tackle the flames.
Three fire crews from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea attended the incident and made the scene safe.
Wiltshire Police has made two arrests with both understood to be teenagers — one male and one female. The suspects have been taken to Gablecross Police Station for questioning.
Detectives from Swindon CID are currently in attendance alongside a specialist fire officer to probe the cause of the fire.
An area behind the former nightclub has been cordoned off as officers work at the scene.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a fire at the old Boardwalk bar in Bridge Street at around 4.30pm yesterday evening (31/08).
