UPDATE: Swindon man named and charged with six crimes after gunpoint arrest
Plain-clothed covert armed officers have arrested a man on busy road in Swindon.
Covert firearms cops, who also work as counter terrorism officers, assisted Wiltshire Police in locating a suspect in an aggravated burglary which happened in April.
The 24-year-old man was arrested in Queens Drive at around 3.30pm today (Wednesday). Three other people were also arrested in connection with the incident.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “We have arrested four people in Queen’s Drive, Swindon, this afternoon as part of an investigation into an aggravated burglary.
“A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, possession of a firearm and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.
“Two men, aged 36 and 18, and a woman aged 40 were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have all been taken into custody for questioning.
“The arrests, which were supported by firearms officers, relate to an incident which took place in Swindon in April.
“We appreciate the concern this incident may have caused, however please be assured that at no point was there any risk to the public.”
