UPDATE: Two boys, 14, arrested by armed police following New Year’s Day stabbing

The police helicopter and armed cops were deployed to an address in Swindon overnight.

Numerous officers carrying firearms and wearing ballistic helmets, supported by a police dog, swarmed a road in the Stokesay Drive area of Toothill at 11.30pm last night (Monday, 2 January).

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter circled overhead for more than an hour as police worked on the ground – and didn’t leave until the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

It’s the third time a large armed police presence has been spotted at the location within 48 hours – and it’s believed they’re hunting a suspect involved in a serious crime.

Firearms officers, again accompanied by a police dog, were first sighted in Toothill at around 6pm on New Year’s Day (Sunday, 1 January) – just two hours after a boy was stabbed in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Police returned to the same area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and again last night – this time, supported by NPAS. The helicopter circled the area for a significant amount of time.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said their presence on Tuesday was “part of an ongoing investigation”, but refused to comment further at this stage and did not link it to the stabbing.
