Armed police have swarmed a Swindon housing estate after a disorder involving weapons.

Officers were called to the incident in Melksham Close, Penhill, at around 1.30pm this afternoon (24 March).

Wiltshire Police say that due to the nature of the call, firearms officers were deployed.

Now, officers are working to arrest an offender involved, with a significant police presence outside an address in the road.

“Officers remain at the scene and attempts are being made to arrest the offender”, a force spokesperson said.

They added: “No injuries have been reported and we do not believe there to be wider risk to the public.”

In a statement on social media, Swindon Police wrote: “We are currently attempting to locate a wanted man in the Penhill area of Swindon following an incident in Melksham Close earlier this afternoon (24/03).

“As a result, people may see an increased police presence in the area.

”We’d like to reassure the community that we don’t believe there to be a wider risk to the public.
