Armed police arrest ‘gunman’ and teenage girl in Swindon raids

Armed police arrested a ‘gunman’ during two raids in Swindon on Sunday (13 August).

Firearms officers carrying rifles and wearing ballistic helmets attended properties in Queens Drive and Homington Avenue between 9.30pm and 11pm.

Supported by police dog Vagus, a man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion possession of an imitation firearm, making threats to kill and burglary.

A teenage girl was also arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

The arrests followed a reported burglary on 11 August and an another incident on Sunday evening – sparking the significant police response.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “The male gave himself up upon seeing PD Vagus on the starting blocks with armed officers.”
