The A303 has been closed in both directions after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.
Emergecny services are attending the serious collision near Stonehenge, first called to the incident at around 2.30am this morning (28 January).
The main road is shut by police between Longbarrow Roundabout (A360) and Countess Roundabout (A345).
Highways England says the person was struck by a HGV (heavy goods vehicle). In a conflicting report, the agency says they were hit by a car. It’s not yet clear which is correct.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Motorists travelling on the A303 to be aware that it is closed in both directions between the Longbarrow roundabout A303/A360 and the Countess roundabout A303/A345 due to an RTC.
”The road is likely to be closed for some time, so please plan enough time on your journey for any diversion.”
Highways England says they are unable to confirm how long the road closure will remain in place, but it’s is likely to remain closed during the morning rush hour.
