A Westbury man who tried to flee from a police dog after leading officers on a dangerous car chase has been jailed for 12 months.
Daniel Kibblewhite, 31, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 20 August, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and racially aggravated public order.
On Thursday 10 July, officers from Wiltshire Police’s Specialist Operations Unit spotted Kibblewhite driving a vehicle on Bradford Road, Bathampton, in the direction of Bradford-on-Avon.
He was followed through Sally In The Woods where he carried out multiple dangerous overtakes, including on blind bends into oncoming traffic, and reached speeds of more than 100mph.
Officers briefly lost sight of him, but then noticed a large dust cloud at a roadside farm. Workers told police the vehicle had driven behind a warehouse.
Kibblewhite, of Castle View, Westbury, was then seen walking away from his car before attempting to run.
Police Dog Stan found him hiding in an empty horsebox. When he tried to flee, the dog pursued and detained him.
He was arrested at the scene and further arrested after racially abusing an officer.
PC Layton, from the Volume Crime Team, said: “Kibblewhite’s driving was incredibly reckless and dangerous, putting numerous lives at risk as he attempted to escape justice.
“There can never be any justification for driving in this manner – a collision at that speed could very easily be fatal.
“After he fled his vehicle, he tried to hide – but he was no match for Police Dog Stan.”
