Two cars crashed head-on at a car meet in Swindon – as police swarmed the scene.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on Hawksworth Industrial Estate shortly before 11pm on Saturday evening (12 July).

The incident involved two BMWs, which collided head-on and sustained significant front-end damage.

According to a witness who was attending the unauthorised car meet, dozens of spectators immediately surrounded the crash scene and blue lights were seen moments later.

‘Both cars were totally wrecked, all air bags had gone off’, they commented.

Adding: ‘I am all for car meets where we all park up and have a chat, admire people’s cars etc, but racing on public roads I just don’t agree with’.

In a post on social media, the organisers – Wiltshire Car Scene – wrote: “Both drivers are ok but unfortunately both cars are not.

“We advise everyone in the future attending busy meets to please be more aware of others around you, we understand accidents happen from time to time but we want to try our best to help prevent any at all, there is a time and place for other activities.”

Wiltshire Police confirmed that officers were informed of the crash on their arrival at the car meet.

A spokesperson for the force said that the driver of one of the cars sustained minor injuries and went to hospital for treatment.

They added that both cars involved were seized and the details of both drivers were taken – with one to be reported for dangerous driving.

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that an ambulance and operations officer were deployed to the scene, but nobody was conveyed to hospital.

It’s the third crash to occur at an unauthorised car meet on Hawksworth Industrial Estate. In 2023, four people were hurt when a driver lost control of a BMW they were drifting.

In 2024, a go-kart was ridden at high speed when it collided with a bollard – leaving the rider with significant head injuries.

Wiltshire Police remain committed to cracking down on illegal car meets and the dangerous driving associated with them.
