A Royal Wootton Bassett man has been sentenced for bombarding his ex-partner with calls and messages after a break-up.

Brett Fairclough harassed the woman between 28 February and 2 March this year, and pleaded guilty to the offending at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

The 31-year-old, of Princess Gardens, sent over 200 WhatsApp messages to his victim – many of which were riddled with jealously and possessiveness.

“I hope I wake up to a drunken message I really do just something to wake up up from you’re heart… if you still have one”, he wrote.

Over the course of several minutes, he continued: “If I don’t then I’ll no you mean all of this and your happy off out being single [victim’s name] probably with lads doing everything in your power to hurt me more and more.

“Please don’t do nothing stupid tonight [victim’s name] to spite me.

“I just wanna no your safe and not with no blokes doing something stupid to try get back at me.

“Not going to be able to sleep until I no so at this rate I won’t be going to work as l’ll be awake all night.”

In other messages, he asked to know where the victim was and suggested that he knew that her car was not outside her home – stating: “you ain’t home, cars gone”.

The victim was left distressed by his behaviour and kept her blinds down and lights off over concerns he would attend her home.

On 27 March, Deputy District Judge Robert Morgan-Jones ordered Fairclough to complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity work with the probation service over the next 12 months.

He must also pay a £600 fine, £114 surcharge and £85 prosecution costs. The defendant made an arrangement to pay £100 per month to clear the debt.
