The Swindon primary school bomb hoax suspect has been named by police.

36-year-old James Morgan has been charged with communicating false information following an incident yesterday afternoon (25 February).

It’s alleged the man, of Rabley Wood View in Marlborough, called Badbury Park Primary School and told staff that explosives were planted in the building.

This call triggered a huge emergency response – with pupils, teachers and nearby residents evacuated.

A 200-metre cordon was in place and Rainscombe Road was closed for several hours while officers swept the building and ensured there was no threat.

The site was declared safe at around 7pm, and the Morgan was arrested at home at 8pm.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (27 February).

Superintendent Steve Cox said: “Hoax calling is an offence we treat extremely seriously as it draws emergency workers away from legitimate incidents where there is a real risk to people’s lives.

“The rapid and thorough investigation from my officers demonstrates our intolerance to this sort of criminality.

“Thank you to those who were affected by this incident for your patience while the situation was resolved.

“We hope the swift progression of this investigation reassures you that we are committed to keeping Wiltshire safe.”
