A man has been killed in a high-speed crash outside GCHQ in Cheltenham.

An electric Porsche, believed to be a Taycan, ploughed into a tree on the A40 Gloucester Road at around 12.40am this morning (Sunday).

Emergency services attended the scene, providing CPR to a 36-year-old local man.

Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead a short time later. His next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

Two men, both in their 30s and from Gloucester, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Both suspects remain in custody for questioning.

Forensic collision investigation work is ongoing at the scene this morning – with the road expected to reopen around midday.

The front end of the car appears to have separated from the bulk of the vehicle on impact with the tree.

A child’s pushchair could be seen hanging from the boot of the wrecked high-performance Porsche.

An e-scooter alongside the smashed car was parked and unattended.

Benhall Roundabout is cordoned off in all directions.

Closures are in place on Princess Elizabeth Way, and on Gloucester Road from Arle Court Roundabout, heading into Cheltenham, and from Red Apple Garage towards GCHQ. There is also a closure at Telstar Way onto the A40.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “Officers are keen to hear from anyone who has any footage which they believe is relevant and who has not already spoken to police.

“Anyone with any information is asked to provide it through the following form on our website, quoting incident 18 of 26 January. Alternatively you can call police on 101.”
