Wiltshire Police has issued a warning over a planned ‘unauthorised’ car meet.

Smokey Meets is understood to have joined forces with Wiltshire Car Scene (WCS) to arrange an event in the county this evening (Sunday).

At a previous WCS meet, people were injured when two drivers crashed while performing doughnuts on Hawksworth Industrial Estate.

In September, a go-kart crashed at a rumoured car meet on the same stretch of road – leaving the rider with severe head injuries.

The location of today’s meeting – which is due to take place at 7pm – has not yet been released by the defiant organisers.

Now, Superintendent Guy Elkins has released a statement – warning people not to attend the car meet, which has not been arranged via the official channels.

He said: “Officers are aware of people looking to arrange a car meet in Wiltshire this evening.

“We recognise that genuine car enthusiasts do so lawfully and in a manner that does not cause upset to local residents.

“For those who are inclined to attend, please expect to see a proportionate policing presence.

“Some groups however are deliberately disruptive and cause significant concern within our communities.

“Anybody taking part in disruptive car meets in Wiltshire should know that it will not be tolerated and those involved will be dealt with robustly.

“We will take any action necessary to prevent dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour. If individuals take the risk of driving dangerously, they could face severe consequences, including seizure of their vehicles and arrest.

“I would urge anyone with concerns or information on criminal activity to contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

“I would like to reassure the community that we are proactively monitoring information and working closely with partners and landowners.

“We’d also like to remind event organisers that they must seek permission from landowners and the district or city council before organising any such event.”
