A man has died after collapsing in Devizes town centre, police say.

Emergency services rushed to reports of a man in cardiac arrest in Market Place at around 10.30am this morning (Tuesday).

Paramedics attempted to revive the casualty, who was aged in his 60s.

After more than two hours of medical intervention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

One witness described the incident as “very chaotic” and earlier warned people to avoid the area.

At the height of the incident there were four ambulance vehicles and several police cars present.

Officers cordoned off part of the Market Place to give 999 crews space to work.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police wrote: “Officers attended a medical incident in the Market Place, Devizes around 10.30 this morning (Tuesday).

“Despite the best efforts of emergency services a man in his 60s died at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly sad time.”
