A go-kart crash in Swindon has left a man with serious head injuries.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on Hawksworth Trading Estate at around 11.15pm yesterday (Sunday, 15 September).

The incident involved a petrol-powered go-kart hitting a bollard in Newcombe Drive – reportedly during a car meet. The vehicle was found some distance down the road, in a bush.

The rider of the go-kart, a man aged in his 20s, sustained significant head injuries – which are described as potentially life-changing.

He was airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Wiltshire 999s has viewed video footage of a car meet taking place at the location around the time of the collision, and a go-kart was present.

A forensic collision investigation is being carried out at the scene, meaning the road is likely to remain closed until around midday today (Monday).

Closures are in place between Great Western Way and Napier Close.

Witnesses or anybody with information or dashcam footage are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log 341 of 15 September. Alternatively, email the team directly on [email protected].

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said: “We can confirm that the air ambulance was dispatched to an incident in Swindon on Sunday September 15.

“The Critical Care Team consisting of one doctor and a specialist paramedic provided medical treatment to a patient before flying them to University Hospital Southampton.”
