Teenager airlifted to hospital after suffering burns in Swindon house explosion

A teenager has been airlifted to hospital after suffering burns during an explosion.

Emergency services were called to the suspect gas explosion in Eldene at before 4pm this afternoon, where neighbours reported feeling their house shake before rushing to help.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance, carrying specialist paramedics and doctors, landed on Eldene Drive just after 4pm to provide support to South Western Ambulance Service at the scene.

It’s understood that one a teenage girl at the address in Ecklington at the time of the incident.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they attended an explosion there.

A spokesperson said: “A small fire was also out upon [firefighters’] arrival and they handed one casualty over the South Western Ambulance Service whom was suffering from burns and were conveyed to hospital via air ambulance.”

The British Red Cross Emergency Response Unit and the gas board is also at the scene alongside Swindon Borough Council’s Incident Officer and Housing Officer.

A spokesperson for Wales & West Utilities said: “We’re aware of reports of an explosion at a property in the Ecklington area of Swindon.

“Our engineers are working with the emergency services to investigate the cause.”
