One local resident, who took photos of the mess on 12 February and didn’t want to be named, said that the travellers left the site on or before the 10 February.

“I went up to the site in Chiseldon today as travellers moved into it before Christmas. I can safely say I am absolutely disgusted at what state it’s been left in.

“I’ve never seen so much human poo in my life, let alone the abandoned smashed up car!”

“It was honestly empty before. No rubbish, nothing at all bar the toilet block. There was an eviction notice on the fence of all the complaints and statements of the public.”

The site is understood to have previously been an official traveller site, but hasn’t been in used for several years; it was securely fenced up before a large group of travellers moved in just before Christmas 2016.

Swindon Borough Council have been approached for comment.
