A male’s body has been found in a Swindon lagoon during a police search.

Officers were looking for a missing person when they located the deceased person in Raychem Lagoon, in Cheney Manor, at around 3pm today (Saturday).

Fire crews, including a specialist technical rescue team, and Hazardous Area Response Team paramedics attended the incident in Brindley Close.

At least ten police vehicles were on scene following the discovery, and the police helicopter from Bristol was also tasked to assist – circling above for around 45 minutes.

Firefighters from Stratton Fire Station deployed a boat and a large inflatable raft on the water as they worked to recovery the body.

Wiltshire Police issued two public appeals in relation to missing people – a man from Corsham and a teenage girl from Swindon. Both have been found safe and well.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “We have set up a cordon near the lagoon in Rodbourne, Swindon, following the discovery of a male body.

“While conducting a missing person investigation in Swindon, officers in conjunction with our emergency services partners located a body in a lagoon near Cheney Manor Industrial Estate at around 4pm today.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the person was declared dead at the scene.”

They continued: “Although it is still early stages in our investigation, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances and no risk to the public.

“The person’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

“We would ask for people not to speculate on the circumstances of the incident and please avoid the area to allow for enquiries to be carried out.”

The lagoon was cordoned off into the late evening as forensic work was carried out.
