Two children have been struck by a car in a ‘scary’ crash in a Wiltshire town.

Emergency services raced to reports of the youngsters being hit by a vehicle on the A342 Nursteed Road, Devizes, at around 3.45pm yesterday (Sunday, 7 April).

Wiltshire Air Ambulance sent critical care medics to the scene in a rapid response car alongside ambulance crews. Police were also in attendance.

The children, both 13-year-old females, were knocked down by a dark-coloured Peugeot 208 – which was left with two large bullseye breaks in the windscreen.

“It was really very scary, the girls just ran out and got hit”, a witnesses told Wiltshire 999s.

Adding: “Honestly for a second thought they were gone, but they bounced back and seemed to be ok. There were a few people helping and police were quick.”

Another person said that “a pedestrian was on the grass with a thermal blanket around them”, receiving medical attention for air ambulance medics.

Wiltshire Police today (Monday) confirmed that both “suffered reportedly minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment” – despite the large initial 999 response.

A force spokesperson said that the driver stopped at the scene and no arrests were made.
