12-year-old has been seriously injured in a crash involving a tanker and a car.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the A346 at Cadley, near Marlborough, at shortly before 12.30pm this afternoon (Saturday).

A Wincanton tractor unit towing a Wyke Farms tanker and a silver car were involved in the incident close to the Postern Hill campsite on Salisbury Hill.

Fire crews from Marlborough, Calne and Westlea (Swindon) attended the scene – working to extricate one person who was trapped in the vehicle.

A 12-year-old, who was passenger in the car, was airlifted by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance to the Bristol Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to a collision on the A346 at Cadley at 12.25pm today. A lorry and a car were involved in a collision.

“A 12-year-old passenger in the car was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

“The road remains closed whilst the incident is cleared.”

Efforts to recover the vehicles – especially the lorry – have been ongoing since 3pm. It’s not known when the task will be complete and the road reopened.

In a statement, a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The driver of the car and the lorry were both out of their vehicles before the arrival of the fire service, but one person was still in the car.

“Fire crews released the casualty and they were transferred to hospital by air ambulance. The road was closed in both directions.”
