A Swindon man has recounted the ‘dramatic’ lockdown at Bath hospital today (Friday).

Armed police swarmed the Royal United Hospital in Combe Park after a man was spotted on site with what is believed to be a sword or machete.

The sighting came less than an hour after staff had received a threatening phone calls this morning.

Veezu taxi driver, Kevin Hollamby, said armed police went running into the building as he arrived.

He said: “I got here at about 11am, went to the main entrance and security had everything locked down.

“Nobody was allowed in or out. They looked like they were managing the situation well.

“Then moments later I saw armed guards running into the hospital with guns. It was very dramatic.

“It was quite worrying, I was more worried about the elderly and more vulnerable who might not be able to get away from an attacker.

“Apparently it was a guy with a massive knife and they are still looking for him now.”
