Takeaway staff and an ex-soldier have been praised for helping the victim of a stabbing.

Police responded to the knife attack in the Manchester Road area of Swindon shortly before 6pm on Friday evening (22 December).

A man, aged in his 30s, sustained a stab wound to his abdomen and was rushed to hospital for treatment. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

Members of staff from nearby Swindon Kebab House and an ex-solider helped the victim prior to the arrival of emergency services at the scene.

The attacker was reportedly wearing a balaclava and police are working to trace them. No arrests have been made at this stage.

DS Matt Gamble said: “This was a serious incident in a busy area of Swindon. A cordon was put up sealing off part on Manchester Road while we carried out investigations. This has now been lifted.”

He added: “We would like to thank staff in a local take away premises and an ex-soldier who helped the victim.

“It has been reported that the suspect was wearing a balaclava.
