Teens charged with serious crimes to appear at Swindon Youth Court

Seven teenagers, some charged with serious crimes that can carry life sentences, will appear at Swindon Youth Court today (Tuesday).

The young people – six males and one female – are due to attend private hearings at Swindon Magistrates’ Court. Children, aged under 18, cannot be named by law.

Only relevant professionals, immediate relatives or guardians and the press can watch proceedings at youth courts. The press are entitled to report on cases, but cannot identify children.

Some of the cases due before the magistrates this morning include:

A 16-year-old boy charged with three counts of rape of a 13-year-old girl and assault by penetration.

A 17-year-old boy charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine, requiring a person to perform forced labour and assaulting two police officers.

A 17-year-old boy is charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife – one relates to a stabbing. Read about this case in full here >

A 17-year-old boy due to be sentenced for robbery. He took the contents of a wallet and Apple AirPods.

He is also charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis, and possession of cannabis resin and heroin.

A 16-year-old girl charged with assaulting a male by beating.

A 17-year-old boy is charged with causing £1,960.24 damage to four bins at a school.
