A man has been arrested after a bomb threat was called into a GP surgery.

Both Kennet and Avon Medical Partnership practices Pewsey and Marlborough were evacuated following the concerning call at about 3pm today (Wednesday).

Police raced to the scene, cordoning off the area and ensuing members of the public were out of harm’s way – before carrying out a thorough search of the buildings.

At The Marlborough Medical Practice, in George Lane, staff congregated outside Pets Corner as officers – including firearms cops – attended the scene.

At shortly after 5pm, the area was deemed safe to reopen and the cordons were lifted.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat and is in custody for questioning.

The arrest is said to have taken place near the Premier Inn, about half a mile from the Marlborough surgery in Salisbury Road at about 6pm.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat following a call received by the Kennet and Avon surgery in Marlborough earlier today.

“The surgery in Marlborough and a practice in Pewsey, which is part of the same group, were evacuated as a precaution.

“Following a search, it has been determined that there is no ongoing threat.”
