UPDATE: Wiltshire Police issue statement on huge ‘crime scene’ in Swindon
Residents living on a Swindon housing estate are ‘shocked and scared’ after a police launched a major probe – but failed to provide any information.
Inglesham Road, Newton Way and Semley Walk have been cordoned off as a crime scene since yesterday morning (Saturday, 19 August).
People living in the area have to check in with officers guarding the huge area and be escorted to their homes, but say they’ve not been told anything about the ongoing investigation.
One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Wiltshire 999s that they were ‘shocked’ by the police presence and “scared” there may have been a stabbing or shooting.

“There are so many rumours going round at the moment I don’t know what to believe but the police just won’t say anything. One copper even said they had no idea and were just there to guard it, yeah right”, they commented.
Adding: “My friend heard there was a shooting but another person said a few people were stabbed so who knows what to believe. The police just refuse to tell us why.
“It’s usually quite round here. It’s shocking to see see many of them [police] and scary to think that might have happened I hope you [Wiltshire 999s] find out soon.”

Another resident told of how police were searching gardens in the area.
It’s understood that a specialist search team were drafted in on Saturday to comb the area along side a police dog unit – and both remained on scene at 9pm.
Wiltshire Police was approached for comment at around 3pm on Saturday – but a statement is yet to be issued by the force.
