A woman took a crowbar and blade to a primary school before assaulting police officers.

Lucy Maull, 37, was arrested following an incident at Wroughton Junior School yesterday (11 July).

The school, and nearby Ridgeway School, were put into lockdown after an armed woman was seen on site.

Officers responded quickly and detained the defendant, who lives on Inverary Road – the same road as the schools involved – and in doing so, they were assaulted.

Maull, who has previous convictions for committing offences on the school premises, was found to be in possession of a crowbar and razor blade.

The woman also caused damage to a fire alarm at Wroughton Junior School, and assaulted PC Salmon and PC Kavanagh.

She was put before Swindon Magistrates this morning (Thursday) and pleaded guilty to:

  • Possession of an article with a blade on school grounds
  • Possession of an offensive weapon on school grounds
  • Two charges of common assault of an emergency worker
  • Criminal damage to property valued under £5,000
  • Use of threatening, abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence

The weapons charges – relating specifically to possession on school grounds – are rarely seen in court.

Inspector Joe Senior said: “This was a concerning incident for everyone involved – thankfully Maull was swiftly arrested and no children or staff were harmed.

“Staff at the schools acted calmly and professionally, following established procedures to protect those in their care.

“Maull has now admitted a range of charges and has now been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.”

Maull has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Swindon Crown Court on 25 August.

In June 2022, the defendant was convicted of sneaking into The Ridgeway School and writing phrases in her own blood around the building. She was caught when an intruder alarm activated.
