A man has been charged with killing a woman and seriously injuring a mum and son.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was one of three medical helicopters sent to the incident on the A3066 in Mosterton, Dorset, shortly after 8pm on Wednesday 8 February.

A light blue Mercedes ploughed into two women and a child – said to be under the age of two – as they walked along the 30mph route to access their home. They are believed to be family members.

One woman died shortly after the collision, the other woman remains in hospital in critical condition and the young boy is at home recovering from serious injuries.

The driver was found unconscious at the scene, but when locals attempted to help him, he allegedly fled on foot. He was later located and arrested, with the help of two police helicopters.

Shane Bovey, 40, from Yeovil, is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday) charged with causing death by dangerous driving, making threats to kill and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

He was also charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured, causing death by driving a vehicle while unlicensed and aggravated vehicle taking.
