Plane ‘destroyed’ in crash at Wiltshire airfield as emergency services called to scene

A plane was destroyed in a crash on Wiltshire airfield on Sunday morning (10 July).

Emergency services rushed to reports of a crash at private airfield Oaksey Park, near Crudwell, Malmesbury, at around 10.50am.

The plane, defined as a light aircraft, collided front-on with a single-storey hangar – sparking an urgent response from 999 crews in the county.

Three fire crews, from Westlea (Swindon), Chippenham and Cirencester in Gloucestershire. It’s thought police and the ambulance service were also in attendance.

It’s understood the incident has been referred to the Air Accident Investigations Branch, but this has not yet been confirmed.

It is not, at this stage, clear whether the plane crash-landed or was moving on the ground at the time of the incident.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters were not required to extract any people from the aircraft and they made the scene safe.

The plane’s occupant/s are not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

The aircraft appear destroyed following the collision – with the empennage (tail) ripped off and the powerplant (front end) severely damaged.

Fire crews remained on the scene until 1.40pm, before being stood down.
