A Corsham man who smashed through a woman’s front door before resisting arrest was recalled to prison, but now he faces sentencing for his crimes.

Jamie Lee Sharman-Palmer, 33, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (10 February), where he pleaded guilty to using violence to secure entry, criminal damage and resisting arrest.

Prosecutor Kate Prince said the defendant went to his girlfriend’s address in Dicketts Road and asked for his television back on 29 July last year.

She said the pair usually have “relatively normal contact”, but on this occasion, Sharman-Palmer appeared intoxicated and agitated, so she refused him entry.

He returned to the house a short time after leaving and started knocking on the windows. He then proceeded to force himself through the front door – resulting in the frame coming away from the wall.

The defendant took his television back and threw items around inside the property.

Police were called to the scene and PC Croft attempted to arrest Sharman-Palmer, but he resisted him. However, despite the struggle, the officer soon managed to effect an arrest.

The court heard how he was on licence having been released from prison, where he was serving an eight-month term for dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police – all with his pregnant girlfriend in the car.

He led police officers on a lengthy chase, for approximately 25 miles, on 1 March, and only stopped after a stinger was deployed. He ignored his fearful partner’s pleas to stop the vehicle.

Having been released from prison on licence in June last year, he was turned to custody to serve the rest of his sentence after committing the new offences.

Probation officer Michelle James said Sharman-Palmer was undertaking a domestic abuse programme through Splitz.

A pre-sentence report was ordered and he was bailed, with conditions not to contact his victim or visit her address. He will be sentenced on 8 March.
