MP Justin Tomlinson cut the ribbon on a new inclusive roundabout installed in a play area in Swindon.

The disabilities minister attended the official launch of Brook Park children’s play area in Redhouse, which hosts new play equipment, this morning (10 September).

St Andrews Parish Council installed the play equipment after being approached by Benjamin’s Smile Charity and Mums on a Mission Swindon (MOAMS), who explained that there was very little equipment in the local area for their children.

Councillor Steve Heyes, Chairman of the Play Area Committee, said “Installing inclusive equipment has always been a priority of St Andrews parish council, with all play area refurbishments including equipment for all children, enabling them to play alongside family and friends.

“A recent assessment identified a need for an inclusive roundabout. We are delighted to have installed this new roundabout”

Becky, mum to Benjamin said “It was great news having the equipment in a local park and Benjamin would now be able to join in with his brothers on the roundabout”

Anna from MOAMS said “It is a great addition to the park and the kids love it!

The parish council are also looking to refurbish Wallis Drive play area, where they hope to have include pieces of inclusive play equipment.

Members of the public are invited to give feedback at a public consultation held at The Jovial Monk, Highdown Way, St Andrews Ridge, where proposed designs will be available to view, on Saturday 18 September 10:00am–12:00pm and Wednesday 22 September 5:30pm–7:30pm.
