Armed police are responding to an incident in the Penhill area of Swindon this evening.

Police officers arrived in the Allington Road area of the housing estate at around 9.20pm. They were also spotted in Grafton Road.

The road was closed in both directions as authorised firearms officers dealt with an incident. The exact circumstances of which are unknown at this stage.

One local told of house police were telling residents to remain indoors, whilst another said ‘it looks like they are raiding a house’.

UPDATE 2 JUNE: A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to reports of a disorder on Allington Road, Penhill, Swindon, last night (01/06) shortly after 8pm.

“Due to the nature of the call firearms officers responded.

“We would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident.

“There were no injuries and no arrests have been made at this stage. Our enquiries are ongoing.”
