A man has been stabbed during a board daylight attack in Frome, Somerset.

Emergency services were called to the serious assault in the Cattle Market car park shortly before 2pm this afternoon.

Police initially cordoned off a large scene – covering a significant amount of the car park. This was later reduced to just a single vehicle being taped off.

The vehicle, dark grey or black Volkswagen, is believed to be the victim’s car. It was being guarded by police ahead of forensic examination.

The car appears to have a smashed driver’s side window, but it’s not known if this occurred during the attack.

The victim is understood to be in a stable condition after suffering stab wounds to his neck.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called shortly after 1.45pm this afternoon (Thursday 6 May) after a man was assaulted in Market Place, Frome.

“Officers and paramedics attended the scene and found the victim had been stabbed. He’s been taken to hospital but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing at this time.

“A 48-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody.

“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call 101 and give reference number 5221098390.”
