Lawn Woods has been cordon off as a major crime scene.

Police have taped off the Old Town country park following what is believed to have been a serious incident overnight or early this morning.

Readers of Wiltshire 999s reported police guarding the park on at least two entrances, informing locals that it would be closed for “most of the day”.

A police car is parked in Parklands Road, where officers are watching over the closed entrance path.

Officers could also be seen further into the woodland at the top of the hill. Forensics and detectives are expected the frequent the scene of the course of today.

Wiltshire Police has refused to confirm the nature of the investigation.

A spokesperson told Wiltshire 999s: “Please be aware that we have cordoned off Lawn Woods in Swindon while we carry out enquiries related to an ongoing investigation.

“There is no risk to the wider public and we don’t want people to be unduly concerned, but you are likely to see a police presence in the area throughout the morning.

“Please avoid the area at this time.”
