UPDATED 4PM: Specialist 999 crews are working to locate a substance used in an overdose.

A man was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath at around 11am this morning after emergency services were called to the medical incident in Bradford on Avon.

The house and nearby playing fields in Poulton have been cordoned off as a crime scene whilst 999 crews work to locate the unknown substance taken by the man to aid his hospital treatment.

The house in Poulton was cordoned off as a crime scene from around 11.10am this morning

Entrances to Poulton Playing Fields – where the town’s skate park is located – were taped off with crime scene tape preventing access. Some cordons were removed, but others remain as police focus their investigation on the field and small woodland near Fitzmaurice Primary School.

At around 4pm fire crews from Hampshire have arrived at the scene, kitted up in white suits and gas masks. Two detectives from Melksham CID are also at the incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with an incident following a medical episode at a property in Bradford on Avon.

“It follows a call from our colleagues at the ambulance service at just after 11am today (22/08) after reports that a man had taken an overdose. He has been taken to the RUH for treatment.

“As part of our investigation, we are currently searching a private address in the town with specialist officers to help locate a substance which will support in looking after the person concerned at hospital.”
