A Swindon woman has admitted causing a crash which claimed the life of a young mechanic by overtaking a school coach on a main road out of the town last year.

A first reported by Wiltshire 999s at the time, a blue Chrysler Voyager was involved in a head-on collision with a Peugeot 106 being driven by 26-year-old Joseph Hayward on the A4361 near Broad Hinton at around 3pm on Sunday 10 March 2019.

His car ended up on its roof in the horror smash, injuring him fatally. Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s critical care team attempted to save Devizes-born Joseph’s life, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

37-year-old Sarah Mann, of Cranmore Avenue, Park South, was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. In court this week, she pleaded guilty to both charges.

Judge Jason Taylor QC warned the mother-of-two, who was convicted of dangerous driving 13 years ago, faces prison time when she returns to court for sentencing on 5 October.
